simonashley Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 I'm just about to start trawling through the topics on here regarding my problems but thought i would open another thread incase any one was happenning to be reading and could offer me some advice. Air con- all the lights flash on the lcd display when ignition is turned on, only problem with it is it isn't blowing cold air. Cruise control doesnt work. galaxy 2.3 petrol 2001 And off i go trawling :D Quote
Alhambra Posted June 21, 2008 Report Posted June 21, 2008 1. air con flashing display most likely means there is no gas in the system or low pressure. a common fault is the low pressure piping cracks at the U bend coming form the compressor to a flexi pipe.... the pipe cost Quote
simonashley Posted June 21, 2008 Author Report Posted June 21, 2008 Wow this place is a fountain of knowledge ! Looks like the front indicator will be coming out first this afternoon and will check the hose and pump in the front n/s wing kerb side, left side- side  :D Thanks for the reply Alhambra i will follow your advice up aswell. simonashley Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 (edited) Took the Galaxy to Kwik-Fit today(seems a popularplace on here so gave it a whirl) and they said the system was totally empty of gas and off his range on the meter/display, The cabin temperature was 42 deg, so he tested it and then regassed it and after being intermitten for a couple of minutes the air-con settled down and when i left the cabin temperature was down to 6 deg so hopefully that was the air-con problem fixed( time will tell). :) Next job is the cruise control when i get a couple of hours spare. simonashley Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Posted June 24, 2008 Just had a look at the pipe fixed to the cruise control pump and it was as everyone else's seem to be on here perished so i chopped both ends off and re-attached it which i managed to do via an inspection hatch in the wheel arch trim !. Took the car and out and still nothing so it looks like i might have to take the pump out and have a look at that.Just one question if any one can give me an answer my headlight/indicator is one full unit so i if i take this out will i have to have the headlight re-aligned if so i think i will take out the wheel arch trim which at a glance i would think would give better access !.Here is a picture of the perished hose i took with my phone. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff129/simonashley1/24062008190.jpg Quote
Alhambra Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 to answer your questions YES & YES.... did you check the brake light switch/lights to see if they are operating ok? if the brake sw is defective cc won;t work. Quote
simonashley Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 Thanks for your post Alhambra. All the brake lights are working fine yes but when i turn the ignition on a yellow warning light does come on-on the dash board i believe its a picture of a light with an exclamation mark in it and this goes off when you press the brake pedal could this be an indicator that the brake switch is faulty or is this something that comes up n all galaxy's? To the handbook !!! Quote

simonashley Posted June 25, 2008 Author Report Posted June 25, 2008 Just read the manual and this is normal for the light to be on until you press your pedal down ! Quote
mikej Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 It appears all mk2 2.3's including my own have the same issues aircon ,dissapearing onboard computer , cruise control or lack of it ! If you want to do a simply cheap quick way of checking your cruise then do the following : 1. if you have removed the nearside headlight to find the dreaded perrished hose , repaired or relaced it only to find it still doesn't work then do the following , go to the nearest motor factors and buy a length of similar diameter pipe ( this is usually fuel pipe ) approx 3 metres and should cost no more than Quote
simonashley Posted June 26, 2008 Author Report Posted June 26, 2008 Cheers mike i'll give that a go this weekend if not before ! Quote
simonashley Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) Went to B&Q today and got 4m of hose/pipe for Edited June 27, 2008 by simonashley Quote
mikej Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Hi again my pump was alot worse than that when i removed it and worked for months after , i only changed the bloody thing because the cruise packed up again but as per sods law it wasn't the bloody pump as the new one didn't fix the fault , it was the already mentioned perrished hose going through the bulkhead . I feel if i hadn't thrown the old one it would still be gioing now lol. On a serious note it would make more sense to bypass the vaccume hose first before spending out on a new pump , you maybe suprised and better off ! Quote
simonashley Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 Really ok mike i'll sling it back in tomorrow and hook up the hose, I found the pipe behind the pedals but couldn't see a joint to connect my temporary hose too but i'm guessing if i look hard enough there will be one behing there. Quote
mikej Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) On my own mk2 2.3 gal the pipe from the bulkhead connects to the pedal switches from the right hand side of the footwell , one single rubber pipe fits onto a plastic t piece , i think the pedal switches are in series or something its very simple to spot , just pull the existing pipe from the bulkhead off the t piece and fit your new length of pipe to this plastic t piece instead ( this totally bypasses all pipework from pump to pedals and so eliminates perished hoses) leave the existing piece from the bulkhead hanging while you fit the other end of your new pipe to the pump . If you had seen the state of this rubber pipe that came off mine you would not believe , it looks as if the rigid plastic black pipe that fits between the pedals and pump is up to the job however the two pieces of rubber pipe at either end must have been sourced on the cheap as both mine were totally perrished through . simonashley Posted June 28, 2008 Author Report Posted June 28, 2008 Fitted the pump back in this afternoon and hooked up the temporary hose through the passenger window and under the pedals to the T-joint and off i went, hit the dual carriage way not far from my house and just as i hit 40 i switched the arm to ON for the cruise control and before i could look down i heard a beep then noticed a light come on! result i thought for a nano second before looking down to see the wash wiper refill had ran low and needed topping up! Oh how cruel a coinsidence that was.Tried it again but nothing not even the slightest noise form the dash so i think my next move will be a new/second hand pump! When i connected the temporary hose up under the brake pedal i did notice that the other two pipes coming off looked in good good condition so i dont think i have any problems down there. The challenge continues ! mikej Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Sorry to hear this , i don't mean to take the mick but you did push in the end of the cruise stalk to activate it and not just switch the slider switch to on didn't you ? as for hearing any relay noise from behind the dash this is very difficult to hear at the best of times , the pipe work around the pedals on my own looked brand new , the damage only appears on the section that travels through the bulkhead and this was the only part i replaced . try putting 12v across the pump off the car and see if it runs ! were are you located by the way? Quote
simonashley Posted June 29, 2008 Author Report Posted June 29, 2008 I'm in Hull mike, when i tested the cc i clicked it acroos to ON then pushed it further acroos which i believe is reset it then sits back in the ON position and then i pressed the button on the end of the stick which is SET i believe, but no luck, i'll try and get my hands on a second pump from a dismantler, won't get to it today so it will be during the week now until i try putting 12v across it i'll keep updating and thanks again for your help mike. simonashley Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Very strange you should say that mike as when i was on the way home from the coast on sunday i was hammering the wipers trying to get the windscreen cleened and the wipers just froze for about 15 secs couldnt do anything with them luckily it was a sunny day and they kicked back in again so thought nothing of it .............that is until i had a quick look on here and it looks like it could be a sign of another common fault !!!. Quote
mikej Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Oh dear  could it be the dreaded wiper mechanism seizure ? had that already stripped and rebuilt last year ! if i'm being honest i'd be bored if this car behaved although the bloody aircon is emptying my wallet ! Quote
